Peak Hold Feature
Operation -- Standard on Doran Excel scales
Over 30 years ago, Doran
introduced the industry's first Stainless Steel Checkweigher. Today,
Doran is blazing new territory with the new, exciting and powerful
features of the Excel board found in the 2200,
7400, 7000XL,
8000XL,
and 4300.
Once again, Doran is "changing the way we weigh" with
the new "Peak Hold" which is paving a way for many customers
to accelerate their weighing applications.
APPLICATION DESCRIPTION
Peak Hold is used in a
wide variety of industries in their quality control process. Weight
or force is applied to determine the highest force reading a product
or structure can withstand and to ensure that a part will indeed
endure the physical forces it is designed to. Maintaining a consistent
specification in production results in costs savings, increased
safety and minimizes exposure to product liability litigation.
Peak Hold allows for
maximum sensitivity and accurate weight or force readings too quick
for the eye to see and because it is digitally held, a displayed
peak value will not decay or drift. Common applications for peak
hold are found in:

• Packaging
Industry – Testing the amount of weight of boxes
and other packaging material can absorb while protecting their
contents.
• Pharmaceutical Industry – Testing the amount
of weight to crush pills.
• Plastics and Rubber Industry – Stretching
rubber or plastic products to determine tensile strength.
OPERATING
DETAILS
The
Peak Hold feature on the Excel Series scales and indicators
has several operating modes providing flexibility to meet
a wide variety of application requirements. The Peak Hold
settings are found in the operating mode setup menu (oP) and
may be configured via the keypad or by using the Doran Dimension
scale setup software. They include:

PH – Provides a peak and hold for stable or non-stable
weight. The peak weight will be monitored and held until the
ZERO button is pressed.
• PHt – Enables a peak and hold for 2 seconds
for stable or non-stable weight. After displaying the peak
weight, the scale display then shows the actual weight on
the scale platform.
• PHs – Will display a peak and hold only
for stable weight. Peak weight will be monitored and held
until the ZERO button is pressed.
• PSt – This setting will display peak and
hold only stable weights for 2 seconds. After displaying the
peak weight, the scale display then shows the actual weight
on the scale platform.

In all of the above modes
the peak weight information may be continuously transmitted through
the standard RS-232 port or through an optional wired or wireless
Ethernet port. In the PH and PHs modes the peak weight information
may be transmitted by pressing the PRINT button on the scale. Peak
hold data may be entered directly into an Excel workbook using the
new Excelerator data collection
program from Doran. This provides a complete solution for recording
and managing peak weight or force data.

WORTH NOTING
Peak Hold is typically
thought of a force measurement gauge application and while this
may be the most common solution to this application the Doran Excel
Series scales and indicators with the Peak Hold feature have several
important advantages and benefits:

Many products that require this type of testing are of a physical
size, shape or weight that are beyond the capabilities of
traditional force gauges. The best or only solution is a scale
or indicator and platform configuration.

Products that must be tested in wet environments or products
that may spray liquid when tested require a test device like
the Doran Excel series with Stainless steel construction,
super tough Guardian touch panels and an IP69K
indicator enclosure.
•
By the very nature of this type of application the equipment
used is subjected to punishing forces. Doran is legendary
for designing and manufacturing scales, indicators and bases
that outperform the competition in even the harshest environments.
